The Russellville Lady Panthers faced their district rivals, the Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats, during their last home double-header on Tuesday. The Lady Panthers came close to the win, but fell short to give the Lady Wildcats the 52-49 victory.
The Lady Panthers and the Lady Wildcats started with a close first quarter. Both teams battled for an early lead, and the Lady Panthers won that battle with a 9-7 lead heading into the second quarter. The Lady Panthers started falling behind early in the second quarter and ended the first half 17-28 to the Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Panthers were able to turn up their game in the third quarter of the game, but still falling eleven points behind at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Panthers gained more speed in the fourth quarter, with senior Amber Sydnor and Khalia Hampton picking the game up and bringing the game within points of each other in the final minutes of the game.
The Lady Panthers fought for the win, but they were not able to come through and fell short three points to end the game.
Khalia Hampton led the Lady Panthers with 20 points. Amber Sydnor finished not far behind with 16 points and Nathansia Haskins with 10 points for the Lady Panthers.
The Lady Panthers will face the Lady Cougars tonight at the Clash of the Cats game starting at 6 p.m.
