Last Friday was the end of basketball season for Russellville. Both teams fought hard until the end and had successful seasons.

The Russellville Lady Panthers were coached by Dedra Adler and ended the season with a record of 11-20. The Lady Panthers went 2-6 in district which advanced them to the semifinal games of the district championship.

Sadly, their season ended there. The Lady Panthers would fall short nine points from the Todd County-Central Lady Rebels in the semifinal game.

The Lady Panthers lose two seniors this year, Amber Sydnor and Nathansia Haskins. Sydnor has been a huge impact on the Lady Panther team for several years now. Sydnor has been a starting play since she was in the seventh grade. Haskins also leaves a legacy on her team, being known for her encouraging and uplifting role for the team.

The Russellville Panthers had a remarkable season. The Panthers welcomed head coach Phil Todd back into the gym after a long absence. The Panthers were very successful this season and represented their high school well.

The Panthers ended the season with a record of 18-13, with a district record of 8-1. The Panthers would go on to win the district championship this year, which is their second in a row.

The Panthers advanced in the 4th region tournament, but fell short three points to the Russell County Lakers in the semifinal game on Friday.

The Panthers will lose a big player after this year. Jordan Kennedy has led the team for several years and his high school career has come to an end.

They also will say goodbye to senior Zach Hines, Josh Hampton and Darrin Quarles, which were great contributors for the Panther throughout the season.

The Russellville teams are looking forward to new beginnings and continuing to have successful basketball programs.
