After being in the same location since 2000, Helping Hands Health Clinic has moved to a new location.
The original location had been nearly a wide open space of 2500 sq. ft. Over the 12 ½ years in that space, through volunteer labor and mostly donated supplies, several rooms were walled into small closet sized exam rooms and office space. The parking was very limited, accessibility into the clinic was not at all ideal for patients to enter. The waiting room was so small that many days the over flow of patients could be found waiting on the front porch.
The clinic started the process of acquiring a 4325 square foot building back in July of last year. Finally in December they finalized the purchase of the building located at 810 South Main Street, just past the Todd County Central High School. They started renovation of the building the last week in January and were ready to move in the last Friday of March.
The new clinic provides parking right at the front door and no steps. They increased exam rooms to six from the previous three and one the size of a closet. They have a specific area for the Licensed Clinical Social Worker to meet with patients and for lab space. The clinic has all new lighting, a large waiting room, and a matching color scheme throughout the building versus the hodge podge of colors in the previous building. The building now has the look of a professional medical clinic. They do not have anything elaborate but it is much more welcoming for our patients, staff and volunteers.
Helping Hands Health Clinic opened its doors in 2000 to provide free or reduced medical care to the working uninsured that fall at the 185 percent poverty level. We provide care to citizens of Todd, Logan, and Muhlenberg Counties. Currently almost half our patients come from Logan County. Since we include Logan County as part of our patient population we always want to include the citizens of Logan County to be involved in our clinic. Recently, Logan County attorney Kenneth Ray Williams has joined our Board Of Directors. They have started to see more welcomed donations from a few churches in Logan County. Pastor Garry Mitchell from Pleasant Union Baptist Church, Lewisburg came on moving day, brought a group of young men and provided a majority of the man power needed for us to make our move from the old location to the new location. The clinic want everyone to know we are a mission; there is a huge need in these three counties for the services we provide. If our doors closed today there would be a great number of patients who would be without medical care and life saving medications. Our mission is to continue the healing mission of Jesus Christ.
