The Logan County HIgh School marching band hosted its annual band show on Saturday with 11 bands competing and the Marching Cougars performing in exhibition.

“All the participating band directors complimented me, the LCHS Band Boosters, administration and students on how well organized the show flowed,” said Logan County band director David Dayton. “We had a great group of parents working diligently to make sure everything went smoothly.”

The grand champion was Ravenwood High School out of Brentwood, Tenn. South Warren High School from Bowling Green, was reserve grand champion.

The Marching Panthers of Russellville High School took home Best Guard, Best Percussion and 1st Place for Class A; Butler County took home Best Guard and 1st Place for Class 2A with Harpeth High taking home Best Percussion Class 2A; South Warren took home Best Guard, Best Percussion, and 1st Place for Class 3A; Hopkinsville High took home Best Guard, Best Percussion, and 1st Place for Class 4A; being the only band in Class 5A, Ravenwood High took home all awards for their class.

“I thought the LCHS Band performed very well!” Dayton said. “I felt that the students represented their ensemble, school, and community in a positive manner. Our marching band season is progressing very well. The students are working very hard and achieving results.”

This weekend the Logan County band has two competitions – The Warren East Raider Invitational and the Warren Central Dragon Classic. They perform at 1:45 p.m. and 8:45 p.m., respectively.

“There will be good bands at both contests and we are looking forward to competing with them,” Dayton said. “After this weekend the students will have a very much earned and deserving break for 10 days. We come back and have two rehearsals before our last regular season contest in Hopkinsville on October 13. We have our KMEA State Regionals on Saturday, Oct. 20 – we are hoping to advance to the KMEA State Semi-Finals this year on Saturday, Oct. 27. The Logan County Band has not qualified for Semi-Finals since 2008.”
