Wallace Whittaker, Logan County’s Sheriff, has been once again elected to the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Sheriffs’ Association.
This is Whittaker’s third time being elected to the board, which is responsible for lobbying for legislation that pertains to the state’s sheriffs.
“We support new legislation that involves the retired sheriffs, the pseudoephedrine laws and we contact legislators on the federal level as well,” said Whittaker. “We also help fundraise to help send kids to the Sheriff’s Ranch each year,” added Whittaker.
The sheriff said there may be things that the sheriff’s of the state don’t want and the board acts on their behalf.
Whittaker says he is very honored to serve on the Board of Directors and feels the position is very important. There are only 10 members of the board out of 120 sheriff’s in the state of Kentucky. You are elected to the board by the sheriff’s throughout the state.
“It’s an honor to serve because you are elected by your peers,” said Whittaker.
Currently, the board meets once a month and are based in Frankfort, said Whittaker. The president of the Board of Directors of the Kentucky Sheriffs’ Association is Floyd County Sheriff John K. Blackburn.
