The Russellville Lady Panthers had a big win on Friday night over the South Warren Lady Spartans. After being behind three quarter, the Lady Panthers came back to win 52-50 to bump their season record to 9-13.

The game started out slow for the Lady Panthers as they quickly dropped behind the Lady Spartans 9-14 in the first quarter of the game. They Lady Panthers were able to score 12 points in the second quarter to bring them closer to the Lady Spartans.

The third quarter was the biggest for the Lady Panthers. They scored 18 points to put them behind only by 36-38 going into the final quarter.

Both of the teams battled in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Panthers were able to tie the game 47-47 with two minutes left in the fourth quarter. The Lady Panthers were able to gain a two point lead but the Lady Spartans quickly tied up the game with 52 seconds on the clock, leaving the possession of the ball for the Lady Panthers.

Senior Amber Sydnor waited until there were seconds left on the clock to attempt a lay up. The Lady Spartan defense was too much for Sydnor as she tried to make the shot, but Khalia Hampton got the ball from Sydnor to put in the last points to seal the in for the Lady Panthers.

Amber Sydnor led the Lady Panthers in points with 24. Khalia Hampton contributed 16 and DeVonna Sydnor ended the game with seven.

“I feel like the girls played hard but not smart in the first half. We were not doing little things like not blocking out and not rebounding. I feel like the girls really listed tonight and did what I asked,” said head coach Dedra Adler. “They did exactly what I wanted at the end of the game. Khalia was ready and got the shot in. What I liked the most is that no one celebrated at the end they just kept going until the game was over. This is a big win for us and I’m proud of how the girls played like a team tonight.”

The Lady Panthers will face the Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats at home tonight at 6 p.m.
