The weather slowed down the start of the Lady Cougar softball season but they toughed out the cold weather to have their season opening game on Thursday. The Lady Cougars first opponent of the season were Trojanettes from Barren County. The Lady Cougars had their first loss of 14-3 after five innings.
The Trojanettes ended the first inning with two points and the Lady Cougars were able to get one run in by Madison Abbot to end the first inning down 2-1.
The Lady Cougars were able to get two outs early in the second inning, but mistakes were made and the Trojanettes would gain eight more runs. The Lady Cougars were able to get in two more runs in the second inning but the Trojanettes would lead 10-3.
The Lady Cougars played smart to get three outs quickly in the third inning, but the Trojanettes would prevent the Lady Cougars from scoring, leaving them with a big gap to fill. The Trojanettes added another run in the fourth inning and were able to shut out the Lady Cougars again. The Lady Cougars were down 11-3.
The Trojanettes were able to get in three more runs in the fifth inning, leading eleven points of the Lady Cougars. The Lady Cougars tried hard, but were unable to make any runs, resulting in an five inning loss.
The Lady Cougars also participated in the Spartan Invitational this weekend, but when 0-4 in the tournament.
The Lady Cougars will face the Lady Panthers tonight at Logan County High School at 5:30 p.m. The Cougars and Panthers will be facing each other at Russellville High School at 5 p.m.
