The Logan County Fiscal Court has scheduled another office equipment and electronics recycling event for Friday, March 22 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. behind the old courthouse in Russellville.

This is the third event held by the county to help citizens rid themselves of old broken technology.

According to both Judge/Executive Logan Chick and the county’s solid waste coordinator Dwight Cockrill, this event has proven to be something the community likes. Turnouts have been big in the past.

“This has been a success every time we hold it,” said Chick. “Hopefully we can bring them back later this year to offer it again.”

This year a different company will be coming to haul off the recyclables. Greenworks Recycling out of Owensboro will be taking the old equipment in trucks. Another difference will be a charge for televisions. The past two years there has been no charge, however, because televisions have very little recyclable material in them, there will be a $5 charge for TVs less than 27 inches and a $10 charge for over 27 inches.

“The company we had before wanted to charge a flat fee of $20 per TV. We thought it best to go with the lesser charge,” said Chick on why a new company.

Chick says the event gives people the opportunity to do the right thing with their old equipment. You cannot haul televisions to the landfill and without an event such as this, they may end up in a sink hole.

Some of the things you can bring to recycle include old printers, copiers, computers and televisions. Any kind of electrical equipment, even electric skillets and vacuum cleaners, but they do not take big appliances such as washing machines, stoves or refrigerators. Chick said if you have large appliances you can take them to Cumberland Scrap on Morgantown Road and get paid for recycling them.
