The Logan County baseball and softball teams and gearing up for the season. Even though the weather has been bad, the teams have battled through to prepare for the games in the near future.

The Lady Cougars have several returning players to the team, but some new faces to keep building up the program. The Lady Cougars finished the season last year 8-26 and are eager to get back on the field.

“I believe we have a good group of girls and a lot of them came back from last year. These girls have good work ethic. They have been at it since November in the weight room. I feel like we are maturing in key spots, like better pitching,” said Lady Cougar head coach Michael Crawford. “We need more time on the field and time together. We have to have patience when we make mistakes and play through them. Right now we are enforcing that one mistake can’t be two mistakes. We have good leadership and positive attitudes on the team this year and I’m very happy with what we got.”

The Cougars have also had to battle the cold weather to prepare for the season. Last year the Cougars had a very successful season with a record of 24-12, including the district championship win. The Cougars lost seven seniors last year but have a experienced group to start the year off.

“The weather has not been good this year, we haven’t been able to get out on the field. We have a lot of returning players with good experience so I’m expecting good games this year. I’m hoping to compete again for the district championship,” said Cougar head coach Ethan Meguiar. “Last year we lost a solid pitcher and a four year starting short stop so we are going to have to find some guys to step up and pick up that slack. I’m excited for the season and I’m hoping for good weather.”

The Lady Cougars start the season next Monday at home against McLean County and the Cougars will play tonight at home against Hopkinsville.
