The Logan County Cougar football team secured their spot in the playoffs on Friday night after their home win over the Barren County Trojans.

The Cougars played an intense game against the Trojans and came out with a narrow 21-20 win.

The Cougars had a very active first quarter to bring them into a solid lead. Early in the first quarter, 17 yard roll-out pass touchdown to Gage Hales from Justin Rone would begin the game for the Cougars. The Cougars gained possession of the ball shortly after and Hales would score with a one yard touchdown run to bring the score to 14-0. Justin Rone would then throw a 72 yard-pass to Hales to end the first quarter 21-0 for the Cougars.

The Trojans would attempt a comeback in the second quarter after scoring two touchdowns which would bring the score to 21-12 at the half.

The third and fourth quarters of the game were slow for both teams until the Trojans gained possession of the ball and would score with two minutes to go in the fourth. They got the extra two points which would bring the Trojans closer to a win with a score of 21-20.

With just seconds on the clock, Rone made a mistake and threw an interception which would put the Trojans close to their end zone. The Trojans attempted a pass to score but it was broken up by Mason Robertson to end the game with a Cougar victory.

Brennan Rostampour would lead the cougars with 33 yards rushing. Hales trailed close behind with 31 rushing yards and Rone with 28. Rone would finish the night with 134 yards passing, with Hales leading with 89 receiving yards and Taylor Blakemore with 49.

“I think we played really good tonight. We had to overcome a lot of adversity but I’m very happy. We did a lot better tonight especially with our tackling. They just put it together tonight and got into the playoffs which is huge for the growth of this program,” said head coach Dain Gregory. “We were a totally different team tonight. They never laid down, they kept bending but never breaking. I think we matured a lot tonight but we got a lot of work to do.”

The Cougars will face Warren Central next Friday at their homecoming game. Homecoming will start at 6:30.
