Friday night the football stadiums in Russellville were empty as the Logan County High School team traveled to South Warren and Russellville traveled to Fort Campbell to try and take home wins. Unfortunately, both teams came home with a loss.
The Cougars traveled to South Warren to take on the Spartans, but couldn’t make a win happen. The Spartans scored early in the first half and didn’t stop there. The Spartans scored five touchdowns in the first quarter resulting in 34-0 lead going into halftime.
The Cougars defense stepped it up in the second half and didn’t let the Spartans score again but that didn’t stop the Spartans by gaining two points with a safety.
The final scored was 36-0 and the Cougars left the stadium with a 0-2 record for the season. The Cougars will face Todd County Central at home on Friday.
The Panthers went to Fort Campbell and played a very close game against the Falcons. The Panthers ended the game with 322 rushing yards and eight passes which resulted in four passing yards. Demarcus Hampton lead the Panthers with 129 rushing yards followed by Zach Hines with 72 and Barrett Croslin with 59.
The Panthers would score the first touchdown of the game with a four yard rush by Demarcus Hampton but the Falcons scored shortly after to tie the game up at the end of the first quarter. The Falcons scored again but the Panthers weren’t far behind with a three yard rush by Hines for another touchdown. The Falcons would take the lead at the half with a score of 20-14.
The Panthers would come back from halftime and score two touchdowns in the third quarter to tie up the game 27-27. But the Panthers defense couldn’t stop the Falcons from scoring in the fourth quarter to win the game 34-27.
The loss to the Falcons will even the Panthers record (1-1) as they take on Hopkins County Central on Friday at home.
