With the opening of Auburn’s new senior center, decisions needed to be made as to how much would be charged for those who wished to rent the space for events. It was noted at the Monday, April 8 city council meeting, that senior usage would trump any other event. However, when the facility is empty, it is the city’s wish to rent out the space and generate some revenue to be put back into the center budget.
At last week’s meeting, decisions were made on how much the city will charge as well as the rules that will govern use of the building. Auburn Mayor Mike Hughes said he looked at other area facilities, which offer space for rent, and what they charge. Hughes looked at the Logan County Extension Service and the Sportsman Club, both in Russellville.
“I looked at both of those and came up with what I thought would fit our needs,” said Hughes.
The Auburn Senior Center will be available for rental to clubs, community groups and individuals for hours outside of those hours dedicated to the Auburn Senior Citizens. It cannot be reserved for use on a regular basis by any group for its regular meetings. The facility can be reserved after the reading and signing of an agreement set forth by the City of Auburn and after paying a $100 deposit and a $150 rental fee. The deposit will be refunded if all stipulations of the agreement are met. If the facility is left unsatisfactory, there will be a $100 cleaning fee.
Groups or individuals which use the facility on nights and/or weekends are responsible for obtaining a key during office hours and returning the key the next work day. Office hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m. There is a drop box available at the City Hall to return the key after hours.
Users are responsible for leaving the building and parking lot clean. Mop, broom, and dustpan are available in the janitor’s closet. All floors are to be dust mopped and wet mopped as needed. Tables and chairs are to be placed back in the storage room before leaving. Kitchen counters and appliances must be wiped clean and any dishes used must be washed and returned to storage. All trash must be placed in containers outside. Turn out all lights and lock all doors when leaving the building.
There will be no smoking inside the building and absolutely no alcoholic beverages or drugs on the premises of the Auburn Senior Center. Children are to be supervised at all times, tables are to be handled carefully to avoid any damage or personal injury, nothing can be attached to the walls, ceiling, floors or other fixtures, there will be no phones available for use, tables and chairs are not to be removed from the facility, local and state police, City of Auburn employees or elected officials and the Senior Advisory Board members cannot be denied access at any time, and the city reserves the right to do a background check on any renter at any time.
If you are interested in renting the Auburn Senior Center, please call 542-4149. The rental fee payment is due no later than 15 business days prior to the rental date. If not paid within 15 business days, the facility may be rented to someone else and your deposit will be retained.
