The Logan County Sheriff’s Department, along with the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force (SCKDTF), are cracking down on illegal drug activity in Logan County. Over the past several weeks there have been numerous raids and arrests resulting from the alleged manufacturing, use and sale of illegal drugs in the community, most notably methamphetamine.
Within the last four days, law enforcement agencies have arrested six individuals from four separate raids in both north and south Logan County.
Logan County Sheriff Wallace Whittaker says this is a combined effort of law enforcement agencies to take drugs off the streets in Logan County. He added that his department will continue to fight illegal drug activity and wants the community to help by reporting any strange behavior within their communities.
Whittaker believes this send a strong message to those who are involved in illegal drug activity, that the community will not tolerate this type of behavior any longer.
On Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, sheriff Wallace Whittaker, along with deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, agents of the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force and agents from the Logan County Probation and Parole, arrived at a residence located at 120 Bullock Lane in Lewisburg. The sheriff and other law enforcement personnel were acting on information which was discovered during a lengthy narcotics investigation.
Upon arrival at the residence, a vehicle immediately tried to leave the area. Sgt. Clint Wright initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle due to the ongoing investigation. The driver of the vehicle, identified as 40-year-old Robert L. Rhodes of the residence in question, was eventually placed under arrest due to Operating a Vehicle on a Suspended Operators License. Rhodes was also believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine and was also charged with Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, as well as several other traffic related charges.
As the sheriff and other personnel approached the residence, contact was made with Crystal Rhodes (Welborn), who also resides at the residence in question. Mrs. Rhodes, who is on active probation for prior drug related charges, gave the sheriff and officers both written and verbal consent to search her residence. During the search, numerous items of drug paraphernalia, used hypodermic needles (used to inject methamphetamine as well as morphine), and at least two small baggies of methamphetamine were recovered from inside the residence.
Mrs. Rhodes was immediately drug tested, due to the fact of her active probation status, and tested positive for methamphetamine use. She was immediately taken into custody by Probation and Parole agents and lodged in the Logan County Detention Center.
Sheriff Whittaker and officers also discovered Mrs. Rhodes’ four month old child, which also resides in the residence in question. Whittaker notified the Office of Child Protective Services and the child was removed from the residence and eventually taken into State Custody. Mr. Rhodes was also lodged in the Logan County Detention Center.
Sheriff Whittaker states that this is an ongoing investigation and expects numerous other arrests to take place in the near future.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, sheriff Wallace Whittaker, along with the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force was conducting a drug investigation when they received information relating to a subject identified as 42-year-old Corey Holland. Whittaker and DTF agents were familiar with Holland due to prior drug arrests.
Whittaker and agents arrived at Holland’s residence at 2098 Holland Road, Russellville, and made contact with him. Holland gave written and verbal consent to allow the sheriff and agents to conduct a search of his property. During the search inside the residence, marijuana was located in the bedroom under a mattress. As the search continued, the sheriff and agents located a methamphetamine lab inside a small building on the property. Numerous items used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine were also located in the general area. Agents of the DFT located numerous items used in manufacturing methamphetamine in a “burn pile” near the Holland residence.
Holland was placed under arrest and during the search of his person, a small plastic baggie of suspected methamphetamine was found inside his pants pocket.
Holland was transported to the Logan County Detention Center and charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance first degree (methamphetamine) and possession of drug paraphernalia.

On Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force and the Logan County Sheriff’s Department served a search warrant at 73 Dunmor Deerlick Road in Lewisburg. They seized from the property $598 in cash, prescription pills, 21 bottles of alcohol, digital scales, and a .45 cal. handgun.
Jimmy Henderson, of the above address, was cited for prescription drugs in an improper container and possession of drug paraphernalia. The investigation is still ongoing.

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, sheriff Wallace Whittaker of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department received information of a possible active meth lab at the home of 40-year-old Jody D. Skaggs of 50 Berea Church Road in South Logan County.
Upon arrival by the sheriff and numerous deputies, a “one step methamphetamine lab” was located in the rear yard of the residence. Several male subjects were arrested at the scene.
Skaggs was found to be in possession of a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine along with items of drug paraphernalia. Joseph S. Corbett, 32, of 103 McArthur Street, Russellville, was also found to be in possession of a small baggie of suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Both subjects were lodged in the Logan County Detention Center. Both Skaggs, who is an active parolee, and Corbett will be charged with manufacturing methamphetamine at a later date.
Sheriff Whittaker was assisted at the scene by Captain David Kitchens, Sgt. Clint Wright and deputy Seth Williford, all of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and agents of the South Central Kentucky Drug Task Force.
