Cougars lose close games to Gators

Thursday night the Logan County Cougars basketball teams welcomed the Greenwood Gators to their court for their last regular season games. The Lady Cougars came back from behind but could not take the win, losing 42-38. The Cougars played a close game, but also lost 71-64 to the Gators.

The Lady Cougars started their game slow against the Lady Gators. There was not a point scored in the game until halfway through the first quarter. The Lady Gators started the game out with a small lead of 7-4 end of the first quarter.

The teams continued to battle in the second quarter, but it was the Lady Gators who would take the lead of 11-17 at halftime.

The Lady Gators kept continued to outscore the Lady Cougars and leave them behind 19-29 going into the final quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Lady Cougars turned it up and started their comeback.

With one minute left to go, Maegann Hardison hit a three point shot to bring the Lady Cougars to 36-38. The Lady Cougars tried to take the lead, but they had ran out of time. The Lady Gators would win 42-38.

Abbey Hinton led the Lady Cougars with 16 points. Maegann Hardison finished with nine points.

The Cougars played next against the Gators. Their first quarter was also slow, ending with the Gators in the lead of 13-10. The Gators took off in the second quarter, leaving the Cougars behind 26-38.

The Cougars had a huge third quarter, catching back up to the Gators ending the third quarter trailing 47-52. The Cougars were able to keep up early in the quarter, but the Gators were able to take the win of 71-64.

Ben Wright was the points leader for the Cougars with 14 points. Taylor Blakemore followed with 13 points and Landon Stratton finished with 12.
