The Russellville Fire Department will soon be ordering 500 information pamphlets to hand out to the public after they experience the tragedy of a fire.
Fire chief Billy Poole came to the Tuesday, Feb. 19 city council meeting with the idea of a pamphlet saying he felt the information would be beneficial to those who are effected by structure fires. The council and mayor were very supportive of the idea, but pondered how many to have printed.
At the Tuesday, March 5 city council meeting, mayor Mark Stratton said Poole had checked into the pricing of printing a pamphlet and found it would be cheaper to print them in black and white. He said 500 would cost approximately $250.
“I don’t really think it matters,” said Stratton, about being black and white or color.
The council first thought they may be able to pay for the cost of the pamphlets through a recently received fire grant, however, Stratton said the project does not fall under the criteria. That grant is to pay for educational materials like crayons and coloring books.
Poole said he came up with the idea after having concern for those left at the scene of a fire when the fire department leaves. The pamphlet will be full of informative questions and answers for those who have been victims of a fire. There will also be fire prevention tips, cleaning tips and important phone numbers victims may need after a fire.
Poole says the pamphlets will help those who have experienced such a tragic loss and don’t know where to turn once the smoke clears.
“So many times after a fire when we are packing up our equipment, people are standing in their front yards looking at their houses like what do we do now?” said Poole, adding the firefighters get asked all kinds of questions after a fire. This pamphlet will help with those.
