Tuesday night the Logan County Lady Cougar volleyball team faced the Bowling Green Lady Purples in an intense series of games. The Lady Purples won the match 3-1 (25-23, 27-25, 25-22) but the Lady Cougars put up a good fight.

The first match began with a rough start for the Lady Cougars as they trailed behind the Lady Purples in points, but finally caught up and was able to tie up the game at 22 points. But the Lady Cougars fell short and the Lady Purples scored the three points to win.

The second match the Lady Cougars held a strong lead of 17-7 but couldn’t fight off the Lady Purples from eventually evening up the game at 18 points. The Lady Cougars were able to stop them in this match and win 25-18.

The last two matches the teams were close in points the entire game with the Lady Cougars leading in the majority of the games. But the Lady Cougars weren’t able to hold back the Lady Purples from coming back and finishing the games with a win.

The Lady Cougars ended the game with 44 kills overall, with Chanler Steenbergen leading the team with 36. Rebecca Dezarn was close behind with 33 kills. They also finished with 77 digs, with Madison Abbot leading with 20.

“After tonight I definitely see some things we’ve got to work on like passing and serving,” said head coach Steve Lyne. “It was a good lesson for the girls. They aren’t as good as they think they are but they aren’t as bad. But I think they played really good tonight.”

Lyne says he will use this loss to motivate the girls for their ultimate goal which is regional championship at the end of the year. Lyne says they need to get mentally prepared for the end of the season.

The Lady Cougars play Todd County Central tonight in Elkton.
