A touching moment honoring Third District Magistrate Curtis Watkins occurred Tuesday during a Fiscal Court meeting at the historic courthouse. Watkins passed away recently, but has left a large mark on his community.

Russellville Lions Club member Pete Leaman presented a plaque of appreciation in honor of Curtis to his wife and son, Carol and Rob Watkins. Curtis was a dedicated and long serving Lions Club member.

A bench was also placed at the courthouse in memory of Curtis. Members of the Russellville Lions Club along with Logan County Magistrates collected money to fund the bench.

Leaman said he had first met Curtis when he starting working at Houchens and trained as a meat manager underneath him. Leaman said going to work every day with Watkins was not work at all, because Curtis made it fun. Leaman also spoke about Curtis’s dedication to the Lions Club and mentioned that he even attended a meeting just a couple of days before he passed away.
