Active Day of Russeville hosted it’s first annual St. Patrick’s Day Dance March 15. The event was held for those who have special needs offering an opportunity for Logan Countians to get out and have some fun. Several folks in the community attended the dance, said Active Day Director Tammy Dauley.

Clay Bilyeu and Timmy Parrish provided entertainment for the evening. Tasty themed food was offered including nachos, pizza, fruit, shamrock cookies and green punch. Door prized were given out during the event as well.

Dauley said she planned the event after some of those who come to the Active Day asked about having a dance. A similar dance is held in Bowling Green sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Several of the clients have attended that dance and have had a great time. “They asked why we couldn’t do the same. I thought why not,” said Dauley.

Active Day of Russellville came to the community 11 years ago, providing a safe, home-like environment for more than 35 clients with mental and physical disabilities. Active Day receives a customized care program that includes therapeutic activities, daily nutrition, socialization and health services that improve quality of life. The facility moved from it’s former location in Russellville to a new one on 431 (the old Lewisburg Road) Jan. 27, 2012.

Active Day of Russellville holds several events throughout the year for their patrons, but the dance was something that was new and offered to the public. It was very successful said Dauley.

“Some folks even got their faces painted with a green shamrock or green heart,” said Dauley. “Several folks enjoyed dancing the night away. We really enjoyed seeing all of the smiling faces as they participated in this dance.”
