On Thursday night the Russellville Panthers made their first appearance at Rhea Field with a scrimmage against Glasgow High School. The teams played three quarters and no score was kept, but the Panthers played strong.
Senior running back and outside linebacker, Zach Hines, was pretty happy with his teams performance. Hines said the game started out slow for them, but the team became more focused as the game went on.
“As long as we play focused, play smart, and with all we got, we can go as far as we want to go,” said Hines. “We worked together and picked one another up. As long as we play as a team, we will be okay.”
Head coach John Myers was very pleased with the performance of the Panthers.
“We got exactly what we needed. I hope Glasgow got as much as we did,” said Myers. “I couldn’t have asked for more out of my team. This game made us a better football team.”
Myers said it took the Panthers a quarter to adjust to playing against a team rather than at practice, but they stepped it up in the second quarter and fought through fatigue and proved something. Myers said their passing game was good and that the team threw the ball effectively and had three good drives down the field.
“Now we’re going back to work and we’re going to get a win, that’s the plan,” said Myers.
The Panthers start the regular season Friday at home game against Trigg County.
