The recent passing of Bob Guion has left a hole in the community, one that will likely never be filled as his life has proven to be an inspiration of kindness to all those who knew him. Because of the great mark he has made in Russellville, where he lived, and throughout Logan County, the City of Russellville wanted to recognize him for his commitment to the community at a recent council meeting.
Mayor Mark Stratton and the Russellville City Council would like to recognize the Bob Guion family for the many contributions Bob gave to the City of Russellville and surrounding community.
The recognition states that in Bob’s early years, he sacrificed his time and money to help make Russellville a better place to work and live. In later years he continued to share his love for community and country with young adults and children through his involvement in events and ceremonies throughout Russellville and the County of Logan.
The void left by his passing will never be filled, but his love for family and City will be treasured forever.
“Thank you Mrs. Guion and family for allowing the City of Russellville to be part of Mr. Guion’s life, love and commitment to the community. Truly Bob Guion was an Ambassador for the City of Russellville.”
Guion was born in 1929. He married his childhood sweetheart Joyce the year he turned 18. It didn’t take long for him to become involved in the business world of his community and was considered by most to be an entrepreneur. Over the years, Bob became involved in his community civically as well. He was a co-founder of ABC Supply Company, was a leader of First Federal Savings and Loan, served on the Russellville Board of Education for several years, was an original member of the Russellville Airport Board, was a former president of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce, was an avid supporter of United Way of Southern Kentucky and Habitat for Humanity, did mission work, and was the founder, along wioth his wife, of the Guion’s 4th of July Kiddie Parade. Guion and his wife Joyce were a team and a lot of the activities they did for the community were done together. Bob will be sorely missed.
