The Russellville Panther basketball team is anticipating the upcoming season. The Panthers ended their season last year at region after winning the district championship. They are also under new leadership after welcoming back head coach Phil Todd.
“There is a lot more intensity this year. Coach Todd is pushing us like crazy. As long as he stays on us we can go far,” said senior Jordan Kennedy. “I’m ready. I want to win region because I haven’t seen that happen and with coach Todd I think we can do it. We all just have to believe and work together.”
“We are working on a different defense this year and running a lot. Practices are more strict and harder. It is on a different level but we are adapting to it and I like it better,” said Barrett Croslin. “Our schedule is good this year. We have harder competition which is going to make us better for the tournament.”
Head coach Phil Todd will start a new season with the Panthers and is excited for it to start.
“They are working hard and I expect them to be ready to hit the gym when they get here. In the game of basketball there is no time to relax. We have a tough schedule this year but I feel like the hard work will pay off in the long run. It will make us better. I want the players to be aggressive on the court but gentle off the floor,” said coach Todd. “I’m very intense and I hope my intensity feeds off to the players. I don’t want to set our goals to low but my priority is to make noise in this region. I can visualize and believe and trust in these players. If they can trust what I’m saying we can be a really good team and I mean it.”
The Panthers will begin their season next Tuesday at an away game at Muhlenburg County.
