Russellville’s new ‘Creekwood Place’ is finished

The long anticipated completion of the new Creekwood Place Nursing & Rehab Center is finally here. An open house is scheduled Tuesday, March 26, 2013. Those wishing to see the new facility, which is located at 107 Boyles Drive in Russellville, are invited to drop by between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Construction on the new $11.7 million center began last year, however, plans to build a new facility have been in the works for over a decade. Creekwood, which is owned by Creekwood Nursing & Rehab Center Inc., has been located on East Third Street in Russellville since 1962, with additions being added on in 1974 and 1982. Before it was named Creekwood in in 2000, it was the Russellville Healthcare Manor.

Elizabeth Gettings serves as administrator of Creekwood and she couldn’t be more excited about the new facility and all the opportunities that will come from having a larger and more accessible center.

“I am just extremely excited and very thankful,” said Gettings. “Words just can’t express how all of us who work and live here at the center feel. We have been looking to build a new facility for several years now.”

The facility on East Third has 104 beds and is approximately 23,000 square feet. The new facility will house the same number of beds, but will almost triple in size at 65,000 square feet.

The new facility’s location is yet another asset to the center’s charm. Instead of being sandwiched in between homes in town, it is now nestled away from the main road among trees. The center is positioned across from the BHI assisted living and senior apartments.

One of the main reasons a new center was needed was due to lack of space. Gettings says they have outgrown the current location and there was a need for a great deal more room. They center is equipped to offer so much more, but space was limited and has been an issue for some time. The new facility will alleviate that problem. Another reason is to expand the rehabilitation side of the center. The new facility’s rehab portion of the building will be quadruple the size it is now.

Because of the increase in size, 20 private rooms for short term therapy will now be offered. This will be for those who will not need to stay long term. An example of this would be if a person fell and broke a hip and just needed to come to Creekwood for a short stay to receive therapy. With the new facility, there will now be room specified for this, instead of mixing long-term care with short-term care.

The property to build the new facility was purchased from Kamal Singh and is approximately six acres. It bumps up against Rolling Hills Golf Course offering a magnificent view for residents.

“This will be a wonderful addition to our community. Our staff does such a good job now and the new facility will just give them yet another tool to be able to continue the difference they make in the lives of those who call us their home,” said Gettings.
