After their win over the Panthers on Monday, the Logan County Cougars moved on in the District 13 Tournament to face the Franklin-Simpson Wildcats in the championship game. The Cougars had played the Wildcats twice before this season and have been defeated. But the Cougars were able to pull together and finish the eight inning game with a 7-0 win.

The game started off slow, with both teams getting three quick outs to move onto the second inning. At the top of the second, Cody Hunt hit a hard ground ball down right field and doubled, but the Cougars were no able to move him home. The Wildcats would get two base runners in the bottom of the second, but the Cougars were able to shut them down to move on to the third.

Joe Holiday got on base after he was walked, but the Wildcat defense were too tough to allow Holiday to score. The Cougars played smart in the bottom of the third and got three quick outs to move on to the fourth inning.

Dustin Cartas was hit by the pitcher and managed to get on base, but again the Wildcat defense stopped the Cougars from moving on. The Wildcats would get two base runners in the bottom of the fourth, but the pitcher Hunter Britt would get the third out for the Cougars.

The fifth inning went by fast with no runs scored for either team. The Cougars started to get hope in the sixth inning after Cartas doubled then made it the third. But unfortunately, the Cougars were not able to get him home.

With no luck in the seventh inning, the game would move into the eighth inning with the score still remaining 0-0. The Cougars were not ready to give up and they turned up the heat in the eighth inning.

Caleb Bruner lead off for the Cougars hitting a double to put the Cougars on base. Cartas walked and Matt Harper singled to load the bases early in the inning. When it seemed impossible to get a runner to home, Ian Woodall stepped up to the plate. Woodall got a good hit to right field, driving in Bruner, Cartas and Harper putting the Cougars up 3-0. Ryan Basham would single, driving in Woodall. Gage Hales would hit a double, driving in two more runs and Bruner would single to bring in Hales.

The Cougars would end the eighth inning up 7-0 against the Wildcats, all they had to do was prevent them from scoring in the eighth, and they did. The Wildcats had one runner on third but with the final out caught by Ian Woodall in right field the Cougars would win the game and the 13th district championship.

Sophomore Hunter Britt pitched for the Cougars and was a big part of their win. Britt pitched all eight innings and finished the game allowing two hits, no runs, walked two and struck out five.

The draw for the regional tournament will be held tomorrow morning and games will begin Monday night.
