Russellville and Logan County celebrated Emancipation Day over the weekend with lots of festivities in and around Hampton Park.

The 26th annual remembrance celebration for African-Americans gaining their freedom from slavery is more commonly called simply “the 8th of August” has been celebrated throughout western Kentucky for over 140 years.

The festival highlights included basketball, softball and golf tournaments as well as music in the park and a block party.
