The Logan County Middle School tournament started on Thursday night with the quarter final game between the Lewisburg Rangers and the Chandler Bears. The Rangers came back to win 22-19 to advance to the semi final game.
The Chandler Bears had a big lead of 9-2 going into the second quarter of the game. But their lead didn’t last long after the Lewisburg Rangers came back to score 10 points to put them ahead 12-11 at halftime.
The third quarter stayed close between the two teams and it was the Bears that game out with a one point lead of 15-14 heading into the final quarter of the game.
The teams once again battled in the fourth quarter, with the Lewisburg Rangers gaining a one point lead with just second on the clock. Ranger Jonathan Furlow hit two free throws to seal the win 22-19 win over the Bears.
Chandler Bear Kaleb Justice led with 11 points for the Bears. Dontavious Blann finished with six points and Conner Hopkins had two.
Ranger Ethan Smock led his team with eight points. Johnathan Furlow, Aaron Baugh, and Jacob Smock all had four points. Alex Wilson finished the game with two points.
The Adairville Cardinals and the Auburn Tigers faced each other in the first game of the semi finals on Saturday. The Auburn Tigers finished the game with a big win of 48-21.
The Tigers started the game leading with a 10-4 lead over the Cardinals after the first quarter. The Tigers defense was able to keep the Cardinals from scoring much, and increased their win 20-7 going into halftime.
The Cardinals had a big third quarter, scoring ten points. But they could not stop the Tigers from scoring 18 points to put them up 38-17. The Cardinals were not able to stop the Tigers from scoring another 10 points to finish the game 48-21, as the Tigers advance on to the championship game.
The Cardinals points leader was Demanuel Barbee with seven points. Both Ter’Vareus Bowens and Nicek Wooden had four points each. William Lyons finished with three points. Alton Hallman finished with two points and Matthew Edgar with one.
The Tigers were led by Garrett Wilhelm after he scored 16 points for the Tigers. John Higgins had eight points for the Tigers. Erik Williams, Cooper Covington and John Mark Page had six points each. Jack Wright, Kelby Epley and Koby Wall finished with two points each.
The last semi final game on Saturday was between the Olmstead Rams and the Lewisburg Rangers. The Rams took home the biggest win of the tournament, leading 56-19 against the Rangers.
The Rams had a huge first quarter, outscoring the Rangers 26-5. The Rams kept pushing on and scored 16 points to put them up 42-14 at the end of the first half.
The Rams continued to make big plays and score in the second half, with their defense keeping the Rangers from scoring much. Even with the last second three point basket by Thomas Bilyeu, the Rangers fell 19-56 to the Rams.
Both Ethan Smock and Alex Wilson led the Rangers with five points each. Mykal Hampton finished with four points, Thomas Bilyeu with three points, and Jonathan Furlow with two.
Olmstead Ram Lorenzo Garcia was the points leader for the game, with 23 points. Robert Dancer finished with 12 points and Dalton Nash finished with nine points. Andrew Milam had four points for the Rams with Will Bingham bringing in three points. Both Mason Parker and Bradley Taylor finished with two points and Landon Thomas had one point.
Tonight the Auburn Tigers and the Olmstead Rams will face each other in the Logan County Middle School championship game. Their game will start about 8 p.m. at Logan County High School.
