Retired Russellville Police Chief Barry Dill has taken on a new roll recently by accepting the campus director position at Daymar College in Russellville.
Dill retired from the Russellville Police Department in August 2011 with 23 years of service. He has been an instructor at Daymar College in Russellville since it opened in 2007. Dill taught criminal justice classes as well as general education classes.
After retiring from the police department, Daymar College began utilizing Dill’s experience and it wasn’t long before he was teaching seven classes.
“This isn’t something I planned on,” said Dill of his recent promotion as director. “It just kind of happened.”
One of the things that made it so easy for Dill to accept the position is his faith in the college itself. He feels like Daymar College is an asset to the community and supplies future education close to home.
Dill said what he did as a chief of police and what he does as the director of a learning institution were similar in many ways. He said administratively they were much alike. “I have to make sure the instructors have what they need to do the job, this is what I had to do when working as a chief,” said Dill.
Dill says he is kinda like the principal. He oversees all the day-to-day aspects at the college and he is enjoying it.
“We have a lot of good people working here and Daymar is a huge benefit to the community. Not a lot of people know we are here. When they hear Daymar College they think of Bowling Green,” said Dill, who wants to change that.
Daymar College is a for-profit school that offers four specific degree programs which include: Medical Assistant, Criminal Justice, Business Administration and Pharmacy Tech.
Dill said the college will be offering additional programs in the future. He added the good thing about Daymar College and the programs they offer is they are programs that can be utilized within the community and you can achieve your goals within two years or less.
