Gerald L. Derr, 78, of Lewisburg, was recently indicted by a Logan County Grand Jury on an attempted murder charge for allegedly trying to shoot his wife Lisa Derr with a .40 caliber handgun with the intent to kill her.

Derr was charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of disorderly conduct second degree, one count of tampering with physical evidence and one count of resiting arrest.

The incident occurred on Jan. 7, 2013, when deputies of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded to a domestic disturbance. Dispatch had advised deputies that a female and her friend had been shot at by her husband.

When deputies arrived at the scene, they attempted to make contact with Mr. Derr by calling him out of his residence. The police report said Mr. Derr was very angry and refused to exit his residence. After a standoff with Mr. Derr, deputies, with the assistance of the Kentucky State Police, were able to apprehend Mr. Derr after making entry into the residence.

Deputies located a weapon hid behind the residence, along with several empty shell casings. They also located a bullet lodged in the headrest of a truck that was being driven by Mrs. Derr at the time of the incident.

Derr is being charged with second degree disorderly conduct second degree by allegedly creating a disturbance with law enforcement. He is charged with tampering with physical evidence because he allegedly hid a Smith and Wesson .40 caliber handgun behind several concrete blocks and he is being charged with resiting arrest because he allegedly became aggressive and refused to comply with orders of the deputies who were arresting him.

When arrested, Derr was taken to the Logan County Detention Center and held on a $250,000 cash bond. He was arraigned on March 7, 2013, at 8:30 a.m.
