Fiscal Court acknowledges 2013-2014 jail budget

Logan County Jailer Bill Jenkins gave a detailed overview of the 2013-2014 detention center budget, along with an historical look back at jail budgets in the past during the Tuesday, March 26 fiscal court meeting.

The court unanimously acknowledged receiving the budget and will look deeper into it as the new fiscal year approaches.

The estimated 2013-2014 budget for the jail is $2,325,944. In 2000, when the detention center opened for business, the budget was $1,453,150 with $1,487,472 actually spent. Over the years, costs have increased.

2001-2002 the budget was $1,579,928 with $1,69, 267 spent

2002-2003 the budget was $1,748,376 with $1,844,304 spent

2003-2004 the budget was $1,985,987 with $1,854,848 spent

2004-2005 the budget was $1,946,236 with $1,930,183 spent

2005-2006 the budget was $2,072,515 with $2,014,773 spent

2006-2007 the budget was $2,139,702 with $2,055,117 spent

2007-2008 the budget was $2,125,175 with $2,049,930 spent

2008-2009 the budget was $2,102,896 with $2,039,539 spent

2009-2010 the budget was $2,082,007 with $1,996,454 spent

2010-2011 the budget was $2,129,883 with $2,111, 638 spent

2011-2012 the budget was $2,218,202 with $2,132,704 spent

2012-2013 the budget was $2,228, 944

Jenkins told the court that $1,945,521 are budgeted items he cannot control. They include:

Personnel $716,424

Debt Service $316,940

Prisoner Food $175,200

Medical Costs $255,000

Utilities $115,000

Building Repair/Maintenance $65,000

Juvenile Housing $8,000

Social Security $58,063

Retirement $134,685

Health Insurance $249,094

Repair Equipment $6,500

Equipment $25,550

The 2013-14 budget will include two heating and air units and a dishwasher/sanitizer as well as prepaid phones cards, which the jail will recoup. Some aged items that may come up for repair are HVAC equipment, kitchen appliances, the boiler, the emergency generator and some electric.
