The Logan County Lady Cougars started their first ever regional tournament this week that ended with a devastating loss against the Bowling Green Lady Purples in the semi-final game on Tuesday. The Lady Cougars had defeated the Monroe County Lady Falcons on Monday 6-0 but couldn’t keep the Lady Purples from winning 0-6. The Lady Cougars ended their season with an overall record of 9-6.

The Lady Cougars showed excellent potiential at the quarter-final game on Monday night against the Lady Falcons. The Lady Cougars maintained possession throughout most of the game. Senior Claire Hopkins scored twice in the first half and Emma Cartas scored to leave the game 3-0 at the half.

The Lady Cougars would come back to show off a great passing game with Megan Lindsey, Claire Hopkins, and Taleia Mason scoring to end the game with a strong finish of 6-0.

“I’m very proud of the girls. We played our game tonight. They passed and kept possession of the ball,” said head coach Daniel McCarley about their game against Monroe County.

Tuesday night the Lady Coguars would face the Bowling Green Lady Purples. The defense would work hard and keep the Lady Purples from scoring but with ten minutes to go in the first half the Lady Purples would score their first goal and another shortly after, leaving the game 0-2 at the half.

The Lady Purples maintained possession throughout most of the game which kept the Lady Cougar defense busy throughout the game. The Lady Purples would end up scoring four more goals in the second half ending the season for the Lady Cougars.

“We were short-handed on defense tonight. Kelsey wasn’t able to play and she’s the heart and soul of our defense. We also lost Samantha so we had to make some adjustments and it hurt us,” said coach McCarley. “I’m ecstatic about our season. Logan County Lady Cougar soccer has a bright future. Only our second year for varsity and we made it to the second round of region. I think next year we will be favored in our district. We’ve got a lot of talented young players and we are going to improve. I’m really looking forward to it.”
