L’burg mayor arrested for shooting man in leg

Lewisburg Mayor Ken Whitson, 62, was arrested Thursday, by the Logan County Sheriff’s Department and charged with first degree assault for allegedly shooting Larry Lee, 57 of Franklin, in the leg.

According to the Logan County Sheriff’s Office, the altercation was called in to the Emergency Communications Center (911) at 1054 Mortimor Road in Adairville at approximately 10:30 p.m.

The caller advised that someone had been shot.

The Sheriff’s Department and Logan County EMS responded to the call. When deputies arrived they found Lee lying on the ground with a gunshot wound to his leg. Lee was transported to Logan Memorial Hospital and was treated and released.

Whitson was arrested on the scene and transported to the Logan County Detention Center.

The News-Democrat & Leader contacted Whitson on Friday. He said his attorney advised him to make no comment.

But Whitson did say he would not be stepping down at this time from his duties as Lewisburg’s mayor.

The case would normally fall under the jurisdiction of Commonwealth Attorney Gail Guiling.

Because of previous work relationships with Whitson, Guiling has recused herself from the case. A special prosecutor will be assigned to handle the case and try it, should it reach court.

Watchingyourback, Do you think the news ND/L should have his photograph posed in a suit befitting his role as mayor or a mug shot of him befitting the role of someone who broke the law..ND/L doesn't make the news, they print it, and what they were printing was a story where this man shot someone. Call a spade a spade, I like Ken, it's a very sad thing to read about.

When you do something like say....shoot someone, your 'mug shot' is not what we should worry about. I think I would be more worried about whose running our city!! How about a picture with the gun he used!!

Shame on the Mayor for having a mugshot in the first place. This is a news-media outlet -- meaning that they cover the news and what is current. It would be unrealistic to expect this article to have a picture of him shaking hands with an Elementaty school kid, or breaking ground at [inset local area here].

Personally, I find the News Democrat to be giving a relatively fair objective to this piece. It contains none of the rumours that I hear flying around town and it certainly doesn't state any biased opinions. It simply gives the facts, and the fact is that the mayor of Lewisburg shot someone.

Shame on you News-Democrat and Leader for using Ken Whitson's mug shot when you are bound to have other photos of him in your photo stock. You can completely ignore the community of Lewisburg in your newspaper coverage and then this is how you treat the mayor. But anything to sell a newspaper right?
