For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God. Not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesian 2:8-9 KJV
Bro. Chad Johnson
We have seen three verses of scripture that seem to contradict each other. However careful study will show they do not.
Paul is saying in Ephesians 2:8-9 that a man is saved in the sight of God through faith. Earlier in the chapter, we see that we are spiritually dead in sins and have no hope outside the grace of God.
There is nothing we can do within ourselves to be saved.
In Romans 4, the Bible plainly teaches that Abraham believed God and it was counted unto him for righteousness.
James is telling us that a man who has truly been saved by grace through faith will have good works. James is speaking of fruit of salvation, not it’s root.
Those people whom we come in contact with cannot see our inward justification.
We do, however, show our faith by our works. True saving faith that comes from God through faith will always be followed by good works.
Amen!
