The Logan County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting Sept 8th at the Logan County Extension Office with 228 in attendance. Following the meal catered by Roy’s Bar-B-Q, President Frances Brown presided over the program and business meeting.

Farm Bureau State Board Member and Magistrate Russell Poore introduced special guest including State Senator Joey Pendleton, State Representative Martha Jane King, Kentucky Farm Bureau President Mark Haney, KFB First Vice President Eddie Melton, KFB Second Vice President J. Fritz Giesecke, KFB Executive Vice President David Beck, District Judge Sue Carol Browning, Logan County Attorney Joe Ross, Magistrate Drexel Johnson, Magistrate Barry Wright, Circuit Court Clerk Sherry Wilkins, Logan County Extension Agent Chris Milam, District 4 Women’s Committee Chairperson Vickie Bryant, District 4 Director Jay Coleman and Simpson County Farm Bureau President Darrell Urles.

President Mark Haney spoke about the need for the next Farm Bill to be finalized and approved. He talked about how important the Ag Development Fund has been to Kentucky. He also stressed that everyone should get out and vote at this year’s election November 6th.

The male winner of the Outstanding Youth Contest was Wesley Estes and the female winner was Caroline Milam. The winners received $250 each and will compete in the District 4 contest November 3rd in Glasgow.

Tabitha Robinson presented the Variety Show. The winner of the variety show was Kelly Eicher with a prize of $50. The first runner up was Jaqueline Batchelor and Lydia Manley with a prize of $25. Emily Badgley received $15 as runner up. Courtney Badgley received $15 as runner up. Marina Sullivan and Daisy Jenkins received $15 as runner up. The first place winner will also compete at the District 4 contest in Glasgow.

The 2012 Institute for Future Agriculture Leaders (IFAL) participants, Addie Baldwin and Mallory Wright spoke briefly about their experiences this year.

John Alcott and Albert Brown conducted the measure the candidate portion of the meeting. The candidates for state senate and state representative spoke for seven minutes each describing why they were the best candidate for the office they were seeking. Incumbent State Senator Joey Pendleton (D) and candidate Whitney Westerfield (R) are seeking election to the State Senate. Incumbent State Representative Martha Jane King (D) and candidate Chris Hightower (R) are seeking election to the State House of Representatives. After hearing the candidates speak, those present will be more knowledgeable about each candidate as they decide to vote for the candidate of their choice.

Jimmy Simmons presented the Nominating Committee Report. The following officers were elected for 2012: President, Frances Brown; 1st Vice President, Jeremy Robertson; 2nd Vice President, Jay Campbell; Treasurer, Albert Brown; Women’s Chairman, Carrell Hughes; Women’s Co-Chair, Tabitha Robertson and Young Farmer’s Chairman, Jonathon Brown.

The directors re-elected for a two year term were: John Alcott, Bradley Brown, Jerry Hughes, Jeremy Robertson, Carrell Hughes, Tabitha Robertson, Jay Campbell, Patsy Poore, Albert Brown, Brad Hall and Trent Martin.

The directors with one year left to serve are: Earl Costellow, Bobby Dawson, Leo Duncan, Dwight Grise, Barry Johnson, Richard Moore, Russell Poore, Jimmy Simmons, Jonathon Brown, Daniel Gaston, John Dockins Dawson and Boyd Ray Penrod

The scholarship donations totaled $247.32. Several door prizes were awarded and the meeting was adjourned.
