Support agriculture projects of Logan County youth by purchasing a steer at the 4-H & FFA Steer Sale. These young people have worked hard caring and preparing their calves to exhibit and sell.

This year we would like to invite all of the sponsors to the steer show which will begin at 2:30 p.m. on May 31st at the UK Extension Complex. Following the show, a dinner will be held for all sponsors, youth and their families.

The steer sale will follow the meal and begin at 6:30 p.m. We feel that the sponsors of this very important project deserve to see what is involved in showing these calves and the hard work the exhibitors have put forth.

Steer buyers will be honored through local media, newspaper, radio and at the Cattlemen’s Appreciation Dinner this fall.

As a buyer, you have the option of either taking possession of the steer or selling it to a packer.

A floor price will be set per pound the day of the sale based on cattle quality and the cattle market.

Buyers will begin bidding at or above the price set as the base and if you wish to to pay only the amount above the base price and allow the steer you purchased to be sold to the packing company, you may do so. However, if you wish to take possession of the steer, you will need to pay the full price. The minimum steer weight on show date is 1,000 pounds, with the average being about 1,250 pounds.

This is a terminal show, so all steers must be harvested and graded for the carcass show.

If you would like to make a donation to the pool to help purchase steers, contact any Steer Committee member or drop donations off at the Extension Office. Committee members are: Lonny Epley, Greg Wilson, Barry Perkins, Tim Haley, Mark Stinson, Gary Woodall, Ray Nolan, Richie Belcher, Brian Beaty, Rusty Clark, Carry Higgins, Jay Campbell, George Whitson, Doug Milliken, Bryan Estes and Chris Milam.
