The Logan County Sheriff’s Department continued its recent trend of drug arrests this weekend by picking up a man with a variety of drugs in the WalMart parking lot.

On Saturday, Feb. 23, Sheriff Wallace Whittaker received information of possible drug activity that was going on in the WalMart parking lot.

Upon arrival at approximately 9:30 p.m., deputies for the Logan County Sheriff’s Department found 27-year-old Jamie Carter of Allensville in the parking lot of the store. Upon investigation of the vehicle Carter was in, deputies found two baggies of methamphetamine and other assorted prescription narcotics.

Carter was then arrested and charged with first degree possession of a controlled substance second offense (methamphetamine), possession of a controlled substance second degree, possession of a controlled substance third degree, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and controlled substance not in original container.

Deputy B.J. Grayson was assisted by Lt. Jeff Sanford, Sgt. Clint Wright and deputy Kyler Harvey.

Also on Saturday, the Logan County Sheriff’s Department arrested Barry T. Elliott of Russellville for possession of a stolen firearm.

On Saturday at 11:21 a.m., deputy Kyler Harvey conducted a traffic stop on a 2000 red and black Ford Crown Victoria driven by Elliott. During the stop, Harvey requested the assistance of K9 deputy Robert Toombs and his partner Jinx to conduct an exterior sniff of the vehicle.

During the search, Jinx alerted officers to the odor of narcotics. During the search, deputies recovered two stolen handguns hidden in the trunk of Elliott’s car.

Elliott was then placed under arrest and lodged in the Logan County Detention Center for speeding 11 mph over the limit, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property (firearm) and instructional permit violations.
