The Logan County High School football team nearly got its first-ever trip to the regional semifinals on Friday night.
The Cougars gave undefeated Allen County-Scottsville all it could handle, but fell just short. LCHS lost 41-33, ending one of the most successful seasons in school history.
Logan County was down 21-0 in the second quarter, but battled back – scoring a pair of touchdowns with less than a minute to go before halftime.
Senior Nathan Oberhausen scored on a 1-yard run with 40 seconds left. Then on the very next play from scrimmage, senior Phillip Stratton intercepted a pass and returned it for a touchdown, making the score 21-13 at the break.
The two teams traded touchdowns in the third quarter – with Twin Lancaster and Reuben Rawlings-Watson catching long touchdown passes from John Logan Dockins.
Lancaster’s score went for 55 yards and Rawlings-Watson’s was 53 yards.
The Cougars were never able to take the lead, and Dockins was intercepted after the Cougars recovered an onside kick in the waning seconds of the contest.
Logan County’s season ends at 5-7. The Cougars won their first playoff game in 11 years by beating Hopkins County Central in the first round.
