Despite playing most of the game without one of its top offensive weapons, the Logan County High School football team nearly upset Franklin-Simpson on Friday at Cougar Stadium.

Senior Thomas Washington went out with an injury in the second quarter and missed the rest of the game, but LCHS rallied to take a lead in the third quarter after back-to-back touchdowns to start the second half. But Logan couldn’t hold on as the Wildcats came away with a 48-30 victory.

Franklin-Simpson finished off a high-scoring first half ahead 26-18, but a Wildcat turnover led to a 20-yard scoring strike from John Logan Dockins to Twin Lancaster to make the score 26-24.

The Cougars then came up with an onside kick following the touchdown and turned it in to their first lead of the game when senior running back Nathan Oberhausen finished the drive off with a 2-yard touchdown.

That turned out to be the final score of the game for Logan County, though.

Franklin-Simpson wasn't done, however, and scored three more touchdowns – two from Darius Wickware and one from Patrick Flippin – to come away with the victory.

In the first half, Franklin got on the board first when Flippin caught a 22-yard pass from Hayden Williams.

Dockins then answered with a rushing touchdown.

Flippin scored again and Logan again answered with a 32-yard score from Dockins to Reuben Rawlings-Watson.

Phillip Stratton also caught a 5-yard touchdown in the first half.

Dockins accounted for four of Logan County’s five touchdowns with three coming through the air.

The Cougars could have secured a home playoff game with a win, but will instead enter the Class 4A playoffs as the No. 3 seed in District 2.

Franklin-Simpson is the No. 2 seed and undefeated Allen County-Scottsville is the No. 1.

Logan County will play at Russellville in the annual “Clash of the Cats” this week. Coach Lee Proctor said Washington is doing well and could play in that game.
