Eight young ladies from Russellville and Logan County schools represented the 5th/6th Grade Logan Ice Basketball Team. For the second straight year, the team participated in a three week long Spring League in Owensboro, hosted by the Kentucky Wesleyan Women’s Basketball team. Team members include: Carlie Alvis, Blayke Bingham, Abi Lindsey and Katie Noffsinger, all of Olmstead; Meredith Johnson of Lewisburg; Macie Hunt of Auburn; DeShale LeBlanc of Russellville; and Olivia Bouldin of Adairville. The head coach was Chris Wilcutt

The Spring League was a great experience for the team’s seven 5th graders and lone 6th grader (Johnson). Although the Logan Ice team was by far the youngest and most under-sized team in their division, the Ladies demonstrated excellent team work with gritty effort and toughness. Their hard work and determination earned the team an opportunity in the League Division Championship game and a right to play for back to back championships for the Logan Ice program. Unfortunately, the ladies from Breckenridge County were too much for the Logan County bunch, and the Logan Ice finished as runner-up in a 24-13 defeat. The Logan Ice team completed their Spring League with a pool play record of 3-3.

Twelve young ladies, representing each of the five Logan County Middle Schools, recently formed a strong 7th/8th Grade Logan Ice Basketball Team. For the second straight year, the team participated in a three week long Spring League in Owensboro, hosted by the Kentucky Wesleyan Women’s Basketball team. Team members included: Ann Meguiar Bouldin, Lauren Batten and Brooke Barnes, all of Adairville; Kaitlyn Fisher of Auburn, Desirae Powell of Chandlers; Lauren Burnett, Jordan Goss and Brittany Wilhelm, all of Lewisburg; & Claire Wilson, Taleia Mason, Cierra Johnson and Katherine Smith, all of Olmstead. The Head Coach was Daniel Alvis, and he was assisted by Nick Hildabrand.

The Logan Ice program is a great opportunity for the middle school ladies of Logan County to become familiar with the coaching staff and systems of the Logan County High School team, all with the hope it will allow for a smooth transition as the ladies move up from their local middle school team. The KWC Spring League was a well structured opportunity for the Ice team to gain valuable experience against some of the strong programs of the state’s Third region. The Ladies’ initial goal for the season was to return to the championship game to avenge an overtime loss last season. Unfortunately, a couple of early defeats derailed those plans, and the team finished as the overall third seed after pool play, which set up a consolation contest against Daviess County.

In the Consolation game, the Ladies from Logan got off to a rough offensive start, struggling to put the ball in the hole and failing to capitalize on defensive opportunities. The Ice team got rolling in the second half outscoring Daviess County 17-13, but the first half deficit was too much to overcome as they lost 34-21. Nonetheless, the Logan Ice team consistently demonstrated hard work and a willingness to improve, which will reap dividends for the high school program as eight members of the team move up to become Lady Cougars for Coach Scot MacAllister.

The 7th/8th grade Logan Ice team completed their Spring League with an overall record of 5-3.
