The Logan County Humane Society will be hosting its annual “Pets With Santa” event on Saturday, Dec. 8 beginning at 9 a.m. through 12 p.m. at the old Logan County Courthouse.

The community is invited to bring out their pets, no matter what size, to be photographed with ol’ St. Nick. Light refreshments for both people and pets will be offered.

This event is being held as a fundraiser for the Logan County Humane Society to help with their thriving rescue program responsible for saving hundreds of Logan County’s stray animal population. Volunteers of the Humane Society take homeless dogs north to rescue facilities who find them homes. These rescue facilities guarantee the animals will be adopted instead of allowing them to sit in the shelter waiting to be euthanized. Unfortunately, this effort is costly and funds for the transports are always scarce.

The Logan County Humane Society operates on a tight budget and all of the money designated by the county and city of Russellville has to go for day-to-day operations. The monies for rescues comes directly from donations and fundraisers. It is the hopes of the society that this year’s “Pets with Santa” event will generate enough money to help fund winter rescue efforts and save the lives of numerous animals that would otherwise loose their lives.

If you need a cute little Christmas card with your pet and Santa to send to your family and friends or if you just want one to frame for yourself, bring your loved one out and take a picture with Santa Claus. You can also bring out your children or grandchildren to take a photo as well. It will be a gift that will save lives as well as give pet owners a cherished memory.

It is the goal of all Humane Society Board members and volunteers to have a no kill shelter in Logan County and the goal is as close to being met as ever, however, this will take a considerable amount of money to continue.

“I cannot thank the community enough for supporting the Logan County Humane Society,” said director Kathy Maddox. “It is because of their kind hearts that so many animals are saved. They really are making a difference.”

The Logan County Humane Society is not affiliated with any other animal rescue in Logan County. They are a stand-alone entity vying for funds from the community to save the stray animals in Logan County.
