The Logan County Farm Bureau held its annual meeting Sept. 12th at the new Logan County Extension Office with 248 in attendance. Following the meal catered by Roy’s Bar-B-Q, President Daniel Gaston presided over the program and business meeting. John Alcott gave the invocation and led the pledge of allegiance to the American flag.

State Board Member, Russell Poore introduced special guests including: Judge Logan Chick, Judge Sue Carol Browning, Magistrate Curtis Watkins, Magistrate Harold Prince, Magistrate Loyd Houchens, Sheriff Wallace Whittaker, State Representative Martha Jane King, State Senator Joey Pendleton, Warren County Young Farmer Chairman Chris Rager and his wife Heather, Chris Milam, Jake Owen, Vickie Bryant. Also in attendance was President of Kentucky Farm Bureau Federation Mark Haney, KFB Federation 2nd Vice President Eddie Melton and Executive Vice President of KFB Federation David Beck. These three men each spoke briefly to the membership.

Women’s chairman Carrell Hughes recognized scholarship winner Catie Martin who won the county FB scholarship of $500 and a state FB scholarship of $1,000. A total of $282 was raised to go toward next years scholarship fund. She also introduced the 2009 Institute For Future Agriculture Leaders participants: Justin Allen, Logan Fugate, Chelsey Jones and Jonathon Haley.

Joe Rogan FB Area Program Director for District 4 conducted the Outstanding Youth contest. Participating were Logan Fugate and Robin Estes. They will each represent Logan County at the District 4 contest in Glasgow November 7th.

Carrell Hughes presented the Variety Show. The winner of the variety show was Tiffani and Emily Badgley with a prize of $50. The first runner up was Brittany Carter with a prize of $25. The first place winners will also compete at the District 4 contest in Glasgow.

During the business meeting the following resolutions passed and will be sent to the state annual meeting for consideration to be adopted as Farm Bureau Policy:

We oppose the proposed fee on structure and surface pollution permit.

Farm Bureau supports H2A Program in its present form.

Farm Bureau opposes any Legislation about animal rights to be put on a ballot for the public to vote on. We would prefer the matter of animal rights be regulated from the Ag sector, the University of Kentucky and other professionals from the Agricultural Community.

The following officers were elected for 2010: President, Daniel Gaston; 1st Vice president, Jeremy Robertson, 2nd Vice President, John Alcott; Treasurer, Albert Brown; Women’s Co chairmen Carrell Hughes, Tabitha Robertson and Young Farmer Chairman, Jonathon Brown.

The directors re-elected were: Earl Costellow, Bobby Dawson, Leo Duncan, Dwight Grise. Barry Johnson, Richard Moore, Alan Simmons, Jimmy Simmons, Jonathon Brown, Jimmy White and Russell Poore.

Directors with one year to serve are: John Alcott, Bradley Brown, Frances Brown, Lonny Epley, Jerry Hughes, Ray Hughes, Jeremy Robertson, Carrell Hughes, Tabitha Robertson, Denny Price, Jay Campbell, Clay Turner and Patsy Poore.

Several door prizes were awarded and the meeting was adjourned.
