A 6-year-old boy died Friday after getting sick at Lewisburg Elementary School on Friday.
Logan County EMS was called out to the school Friday after Terrance Wade Wilson, a kindergarten student there, became unresponsive during class.
“The other children were removed from the room while they were trying to revive him,” said Logan County schools superintendent Marshal Kemp. “They revived him and got a pulse and moved him to the hospital. The plan was to then life flight him to Vanderbilt once he was stable enough to be flown, but he never did get stable enough.”
Wilson was pronounced dead at Logan Memorial Hospital by county coroner Mary givens, who said the cause of death is undetermined and an autopsy will be performed in Louisville.
Kemp said that this is the first time he is aware of a child becoming sick at school like this and then passing away.
“It’s a terrible thing,” he said. “We have people at the school in case someone there needs counselling. And we covered te classes of any teachers that wanted to attend the funeral.”
Lewisburg principal Randy Marcum stayed with the Wilson family at the hospital during the ordeal, Kemp said.
“We try to do what we can to help them through,” he said.
Kemp said he considered calling off school on Monday, but decided the best thing to do was to go ahead and try to have class as normal.
“We were encouraged to continue things on a routine basis and so that’s why we’re not calling off school,” Kemps said.
Funeral services for Wilson were held Monday, Aug.13 at 1 p.m. at Price Funeral Home with the Brother Steve Reed officiating. Memorial contributions may be sent to help with funeral expenses to Price Funeral Home, P.O. Box 299, Lewisburg, Ky. 42256.
