Lee Dockins competed in the second annual USAG-Special Olympics national competition held in Atlanta, Ga. on Saturday, May 5, 2012. She won the gold all around in Rhythmic gymnastics, placing first in the hoop, ball, ribbon, and rope. She also won the gold all around in Artistic gymnastics, placing first in the uneven bars, floor, balance beam, and second on the vault.
This is one of Lee’s many accomplishments and awards. She is no stranger to high-level Special Olympics events. She also competed in the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games held in the birthplace of the Olympics movement – Athens Greece and competed in artistic gymnastics at the 2007 World Games in Shanghai, China.
She was a member of Team Kentucky at the 2006 Special Olympics USA National Games. Dockins was named 2008 Special Olympics Kentucky Athlete of the Year and lit the Special Olympics Cauldron at the 2009 Special Olympics Kentucky State Summer Games.
In addition to competing in Special Olympics events, Dockins is also a Global Messenger for the program, undergoing training to do public speaking on behalf of herself, her fellow athletes and Special Olympics Kentucky.
