OH MY GOSH, IT’S OVER! I CAN’T BELIEVE IT, WHERE DID IT GO? THE YEAR THAT IS! IT’S 2013 ALL READY!
It seems like the older you get the faster the time flies. Well, it’s another year come and gone. I am sitting on my porch just letting my mind wander….as usual. Then it just occurred to me that I would have another great time in the year of 2013 to enjoy life, talk with you people, find more friends and do something different.
I will not forget the first time I saw Lewisburg, my first look at the lake, the women at “Books to Go”, the Purple Martin Festival, Diamond Springs, Duncan Center, all the beautiful homes in Russellville and most of all the Tobacco Festival! I am just a kid at heart. I love a parade!
This is the time of year you should really think about all the wonderful things that you had happen to you this past year.
Of course the most wonderful thing in my life is that you have accepted me as I am; a person who loves the little things. I am soft hearted, will cry at “the drop of a hat”, I talk too much, seldom listen and the Hubby would say, “hard headed”! But that is okay because that is what I am. We are what we are. We can’t do a thing about it. Yes, we always try to change, like “not eating that chocolate cake when the doctor told us to lose weight and when we “pass on that little bit of gossip” that we know we shouldn’t. Now come on, we are all guilty.
Well, it is a new year, a new beginning, the slate has been wiped clean and we say “I am going to get organized and really have something to show for the coming days. I’m not going to let this new year slip by and not accomplish something constructive!
Well, the old TG is going to give you just one “little clue” on how to do this. First you get a piece a paper, a great writing pen; you know one that will write…yes, I know every time you pick one up it won’t write and you just put it back in the drawer, never throw it away! Once you get these two things together you start making a list. No it’s not like the “making a list and checking it twice” for Santa Claus. You sit down and really give it some thought. WHAT DO I WANT TO ACCOMPLISH THIS COMING YEAR?
Man that is a tall order. Do we look back on life and think, where did the time go? What on earth did I do with all those wonderful moments? Or do we think, man here it is another year of the same old stuff! You do have control of your own destiny.
You know I was young once and I thought it was the worst time in my life and now that I look back on it; I wasted so much precious time. I could have taken a class, been trained for something that would benefit me in later life. I could have read more books; Spent more time thinking positive thoughts. But old TG is just like everyone else; I just tried to survive.
So that is why I am bringing up the subject of making a list! When it is complete post it up on your refrigerator. Aren’t refrigerator doors wonderful? What would we do without them? See, you thought I was going to get all SERIOUS didn’t you. Well, I have the most beautiful refrigerator door in town. If yours is not cluttered up with all sorts of STUFF then you are slipping. That can be your communication tool for the entire family. Hey, that is something to put on the list.
As you go through the year, you can “add to” or draw a line through those things that you have completed. Here are some suggestions I have for you that are very simple. Have a positive thought every morning, smile even if it hurts. You know some people hadn’t smiled in so long; that frown is frozen on their face. Say HELLO even if you don’t know them. You might be the only one that they talk to all week. And last but not least, share a hug with everyone you know.
You won’t believe this but old TG didn’t like to HUG people years ago. Then all of a sudden we got a new minister and his wife hugged everybody when you came to church! The first time she did that I thought, “Woman, why are you hugging me? Guess what, I begin to like it after a while. Now you need to try it especially at church. You do go to church don’t you? If not then put that on your list.
The Hubby just got up, he’s got his coffee in hand and he’s saying, “Are you on that computer again”? How would you like to wake up to that? Of course he knows that when I am talking with you I am letting his ears rest.
I guess it is time to go. Just one minute; almost forgot. Have you noticed I haven’t mentioned fishing lately? Well it’s only two months and twenty eight day till fishing season starts for old TG. You do remember I am one of those “fair weather fisher women?
It’s really time to go now. Stay happy and get busy making that list! I must say, “Talking with you people out there is the highlight of my week” Start creating some HIGHLIGHTS in your life right NOW. Hey, you could even try by putting a little EXCITEMENT in your life. Try eating chocolate ice cream instead of vanilla!
Bye, Bye till next time.
