The Russellville High School girls’ basketball team notched its first win of the season Tuesday, beating visiting Butler County 47-39.

Senior Nakia Daniel had 13 points and Brittany Hampton added 10 points in the win.

“Overall I was pleased with our effort,” RHS coach Dedra Adler said. “Imani Hampton and Amber Sydnor both got in foul trouble a little early and I was really proud of the way the girls held their composure.”

Tameeka Rippy and Imani Hampton each scored six points. Leandra Hoosier Sydnor and Kesi Neblett all had four points.

“Kesi Neblett has really been stepping in and giving us some much needed relief and is proving to be a real asset to this team,” Adler said. “She works extremely hard and is continuing to improve each day.”

Hoosier led the team in rebounding with 10.

“LeAndra had a great rebounding game which is extremely important on both ends of the floor,” Adler said. “Brittany Hampton had a nice shooting night and so did Kesi Neblett. It is nice to see some other girls get involved in the scoring process because that is what I feel this team has been lacking.”

Russellville did have 22 turnovers in the win, however.

“Our defensive intensity looked really nice in the first and fourth quarter,” Adler said. “We just have to play four quarters of basketball.

“The team blocked out really well and were rebounding better than I have seen them do yet,” Adler said. “I still don't feel like we are where I want us to be but it's early and we have plenty of time to work on the little things. I am just waiting to see the fire and intensity that I know if these girls will ever play with will make them unstoppable. Once we all get on the same page good things will happen! We just have some fine tuning to do.”

Russellville (1-1) opened the season on Monday with a 67-52 loss at Allen County-Scottsville.

Rippy and Sydnor both scored 13 points in the loss.

The Lady Panthers will next play on Monday at home against Hopkinsville.
