Lady Cougars beginning season slow

The Lady Cougars had started the season slow with a 1-2 record after the first week of the season. The Lady Cougars had a big win over Hopkins County Central 66-63. But they would play the Greenwood Lady Gators and fall 83-72.

The Lady Cougars started the game against the Hopkins County Lady Storm rough ending the first half behind 28-37. The Lady Cougars were able to have a big third quarter out scoring the Lady Storm which left the Lady Cougars trailing shortly behind ending the third quarter 53-55. The Lady Cougars fought hard and were able to pull through with a win of 66-63.

Megan Lindsey led the Lady Cougars with a career first 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Lady Cougars to victory. With 11 seconds left in the game, Maegann Hardison hit two free throws as part of her 18 points of the game to seal the win for the Lady Cougars. Kapreshia Powell followed behind with nine points for the Lady Cougars.

The Lady Cougars would face the Greenwood Lady Gators at their home game on Saturday. The Lady Cougars fell short of the Lady Gators throughout the game but still played hard.

Maegann Hardison led the Lady Cougars with 21 points and eight rebounds followed by Megan Lindsey with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Kapreshia Powell ended close behind with 10 points for the Lady Cougars and eight rebounds. Katelyn Jones had 11 rounds and six points for the Lady Cougars.

“The Lady Cougars shot 35 more field goals than the visiting Gators but missed too many shots near the basket and send the Greenwood team to the free throw line 35 times to drop an exciting game 83-72,” said head coach Scot MacAllister.

The Lady Cougars will play their first double header on Friday at a home game against the Franklin-Simpson Lady Wildcats.
