The Cougar Band received its first distinguished rating of the season. The Ohio County Band stole Grand Championship from the Cougar Band by a mere 1.1 points. Other bands that evening competing were Ballard Memorial, Hancock County, Owensboro, Heath, Glasgow, Butler County, Edmondson County, Union County, Warren Central, Franklin-Simpson, Paducah Tilghman, Louisville Seneca, Owensboro Apollo and Grayson County.
The Logan band will compete in Regional Competition this Saturday, Oct. 28 in Hopkinsville at the Stadium of Champions.
“It's the highlight of the whole season,” said Judy Wilson, public relations coordinator for the Band Boosters. “The state is what they work for.”
The Cougar Band has about 20 new band members this year.
“It really has been a rebuilding year,” Wilson said, “and the kids have done great.”
At the regional competition, only eight bands will be chosen to compete the following weekend for the Statel Competition.
Wilson said they are looking for a lot of people to come out and support the band.
Senior band members that will be marching their final season include: Lea Ashby, daughter of Clinton and Dana Ashby; Stephen Austin, son of Steve and Maggie Austin; Brandon Bond, son of Mike and Joyce Bond; Cassie Carlson, daughter of Chris and Nancy Carlson; Patrick Gower, son of Ed and Susan Gower; and Chelsie Henderson, daughter of Charlie and Shelly Henderson.
The Cougar Marching Band is directed by Mark Saurbrunn and Danny Benson.
The community wishes the Cougar Marching Band great success.
