One of Russellville’s long serving commissioners of the city is hanging up his hat after 24 years.
Russell Jones has been a member of the Russellville City Council since 1985. Jones said it has been a great honor and a rewarding experience; however, he will not be running on the 2010 ballot.
“I appreciate the continued support and votes of confidence in each election throughout the years,” Jones said. “I will continue until the end of this term which ends December 2010.”
Jones has lived in Russellville since 1961 and moved to Logan County with his parents in 1958. He graduated from Adairville High School and attended Western Kentucky University. He is married to Pam Young and the couple has three children.
Jones has served on the Chamber of Commerce and is an elder at Crittenden Drive Church of Christ.
Jones worked at Emerson Electric before purchasing the Ashland Petroleum Distributorship in 1970. He sold the distributorship to Max Arnold in 1995 and currently manages their location on Highway 68.
Jones has served on several boards as a councilman, including LEAD, Electric Plant Board, Main Street, Cemetery Board, Russellville Arts Commission and CIMA.
Jones ran his campaigns in the past on working hard and being fair and respectful to all. Looking at what is needed now and what will serve the community’s children and grandchildren in the future was something very important to him.
“Normally. people do not rise above their leaders. I encourage insightful, progressive citizens to become candidates in the next election. Become a leader and help make a difference in Russellville’s and Logan County’s future. Assumptions that someone else will do it could be very costly,” said Jones.
