Head-on collision takes the life of Logan youth

A head-on collision Friday morning claimed the life of a 16-year-old Logan County girl and sent two more to the hospital – with one in critical condition.

At approximately 6:05 a.m., the Logan County Sheriff’s Department responded to the two vehicle head-on collision approximately 7 miles out Cave Springs Road (Ky. 73).

According to a police report, a 1999 Honda Civic, driven by 19-year-old Benjamin Moore of Auburn, was traveling north on Ky. 73 when it topped a hill and struck a 1998 Oldsmobile Intrigue head-on. The Oldsmobile was traveling south and driven by 23-year-old Geneva Taylor of Russellville.

Both drivers had to be freed from the wreckage by the Auburn Rural Fire Department and the Browning Fire Department using the jaws of life.

The passenger in the Honda Civic, 16-year-old Ashley Brown, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident is being investigated by Jeff Sanford of the Logan County Sheriff’s Department.
