Aubrey Hawkins enjoyed playing in the leaves behind Holly Tree Child Care Monday afternoon. The teachers took advantage of the perfect fall day by letting the children play outside. The temperature was in the high 60s Monday and the pleasant weather is expected to last through the weekend to make for a perfect evening of Halloween trick or treating.

Halloween is upon us and there are many ways to celebrate this spooky holiday here in Logan County.

You can get your Halloween off to a musical start on Thursday night at 6 p.m. at the Logan County High School Band Halloween Concert. The LCHS Marching Cougars will be hosting “Symphony of Souls” at the Logan County High School Gym and Commons area. Come in your costume and hear the band playing numerous “spooky” songs including Thriller, Scooby Doo Where Are You? and the Addams Family. The cost is $3 for those who come dressed in costume (adults and children) and $5 for those who do not dress up. Children four and under are free. Concessions will be served. All proceeds will go towards sending the band members to Disney World to represent Logan County in the Disney Parade this spring.

On Saturday, there are several events going on around the county.

Come out to Carrico Park Square Saturday morning for the Boo Bash. Kids are invited to this spooky time which begins at 10 a.m. with fun and games. There will be a costume contest for ages 0 to 10 at 11 a.m. followed by a scream contest for ages 5 and up. For more information, contact the Russellville Parks Dept. at 726-5033.

After hanging out on the square, head on over to the Logan County Public Library for a free movie at 1:30 p.m. The movie is a fantasy adventure about the Grave family who move into the secluded house of their great, great Uncle Arthur Spiderwick.

When the kids are ready to go trick-or-treating, the set hours for the county and all the cities are Saturday evening from 5 to 8 p.m.

In Auburn, trick-or-treaters are invited to Sugar Maple Plaza where Logan Telephone Coop will be handing out treats to children from 5 to 8 p.m. Also in Auburn, New Life Baptist Church will have having Trunk-or-Treat from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the church parking lot. Everyone is invited to come enjoy the fun and candy. The Cub Scout Pack 777 will be having a chili supper at the church at the same time.

Several other area churches have various harvest fest and other events planned. Concord Baptist Church will also have a Trunk-or-Treat at 5 p.m. in the church parking lot. Everyone is invited to come out in their costumes for a night of fun.

In Lewisburg, trick-or-treaters are invited to a Harvest Fest by the fire department during trick-or-treat hours.

For adults looking for a fun Halloween event, the American Legion Auxiliary Halloween Party is Saturday evening from 8 p.m. to midnight. The cost is $5 per person and the band will be Juice Groove from Bowling Green. Come out for some ghoulish dancing and music, freaky fun and frightening food. Door prizes and silent auction will raise money to help local veterans and community projects.
