What must we do to be saved? God’s plan of salvation is simple and straight forward. Only those who would try to change or get around his plan make it complicated. All of God’s word is truth, not just the parts we like or want to hear. His is not a pick and choose gospel, we must accept and believe every single word of it. If we approach God’s word with an open mind, without preconceived notions, it is quite simple and easy to understand. This is what God says we must we do to be saved.

• Hear: First of all we must hear the word of God. Romans 10:14 says, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher?”
• Believe: We must believe and have faith. Hebrews 11:6 tells us, “But without faith it is impossible to please him; for he that comes to God must believe that he is, and that he will reward them that diligently seek him.”
• Repent: Repentance is also required. Luke 13:3,5 says, “I tell you, Nay; but except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.” Acts 17:30 says, “ And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commands all men everywhere to repent.
• Confess: Romans 10:10 says, “For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” In Matthew 10:32 we read, “Whosoever therefor shall confess me before men, him will I confess before my Father which is in heaven.”
• Be Baptized: Why are so many opposed to baptism? The same God who says to hear, believe, repent, confess, and obey, commands us to be baptized for the remission of sins. Acts 10:48 is about as plain as it can get. It says, “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.” Acts 2:38 tells us the purpose of baptism. “Then Peter said unto them: Repent and be baptized, everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins.” I Peter 3:21 is also plain, “The like figure where unto even baptism doth now save us.” Every single act of conversion recorded in the new testament is accompanied by immediate baptism in water, such as men from many nations (Acts 2:36-42,47), the Ethiopian eunuch (Acts 8:26-40), Saul of Tarsus (9:1-20), Cornelius (Acts 11:1-18), Lydia of Thyatira (Acts 16:14-15), and the Phillippian jailer (Acts 16:23-34). May I ask why this is, if baptism is totally unnecessary as some claim?
• Obey God and faithfully do his will until death: In Matthew 7:21 Jesus says, “Not everyone that saith unto me Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that does the will of my Father which is in heaven.” Jesus promises to save those who obey him (Heb. 5:9), and give us a crown of life, if we are faithful until death (Rev. 2:10).

Man has many plans, but God has only one. If we comply with God’s plan our reward will be a crown of life, with the Father and the Son, for all eternity. As we all know, this life is short and tomorrow will never come for many. Why tarry?
