It was a perfect summer day, the sun shining, the breeze blowing, the birds singing, the smell of cut grass and old glory flying when hundreds of East Logan Water customers arrived on the front lawn of the utility for the annual Customer Appreciation Day, a day that is set aside for customers and one in which all look forward to each June. The patriotic theme welcomes everyone to the summer event and customers all gather under the big tent to enjoy a nice lunch and visit with one another and talk to East Logan’s board members.

Customers were eager to drop their names in for drawings and one lucky customer that brought their invitation with them would be drawn for a $100 water bill credit. Congratulations to the following customers: Patricia Ireland (photo frame), Rhoda Miller (Tealight Holder); Rita Nash (Fountain); Herman Duschl (frame); Darrell Allen (Drill); Lamona Ferguson (watering can); Tommy Barnett (patriotic chair); Noel Fasnacht (Drill); Miranda Nash (Iced Tea Maker); Ray Manning (Booster Cables); Becki Inscoe (Recipe Book); Melanie Abney (Big Cooler); Robert Holman (Tool Set); Birdgett Fuller (Clock); Gene Bush (Grill); Marilyn Stevens (Chip & Dip Platter); Amy Parks (12 pack Pepsi); Anges Kinser (Tabletop Fish); Deborah Miller (Small Cooler); Rindy Osborne (Car Care Kit); Jewell White (UK Hat); Robbie Powell (UK Shirt); Phil Baker (patriotic chair); Allen Chiles (UK Hat); Ron Parsons (Lantern String Lights); and Mike Stevenson ($100 water bill credit).

The event is growing each year and East Logan was glad to have as event sponsors Auburn Banking Company, Lewisburg Banking Company, Logan Memorial Hospital and McGhee Engineering. Also under the big shade tree joining in the fun was Air-Evac signing up customers for their service, Auburn Community Health Clinic giving away nice big red apples and taking blood pressures and body fat analysis, Good Samaritan handing out literature and talking to customers about the services they offer and UK Deptartmetn of Ag sharing very important information about nutrition.

Sarah Moore of East Logan was handing out goodie bags along with reusable refillable water bottles and information on frequently asked questions regarding water usage. Copies are available for all customers at the office during the work day. It helps to understand questions from high water bills to toliet leaks to questions about daily indoor water use and the convenient ways of paying water bills. “It’s fun doing something extra for our customers once a year because it feels good”, says Jana Hanks, public relations manager of East Logan.

The big grill was fired up cooking the famous Nathan’s hotdogs and all the fixings for customers to enjoy for lunch. And then the finishing touch to any summer dessert on a hot day, Chaney’s Ice Cream serving up their most favorite flavors. East Logan also welcomed the Air Evac Lifeteam when they landed their helicopter in the field adjacent to the event. Many children and adults were able to see inside the helicopter and ask questions and have their picture made inside the helicopter. East Logan Water is a big supporter of Air Evac and hopes that customers will join America’s largest air medical membership program. Auburn Fire Department Chief, Jim Kutzman and other firemen were on site with the big fire engine talking to customers and signing them up for memberships.

East Logan’s crew had displays set up for customers to see and learn more about the services provided by the utility. One display showed customers how many sizes of pipe that is throughout the district serving the nearly 3000 customers from 3/4” water pipe all the way to 12” water pipe that is needed to provide water to all customers.

Also in attendance was Senator Joey Pendleton and Representative Martha Jane King. Martha Jane presented East Logan’s board with a Proclamation and a brand new American flag. East Logan Water is also very proud of the Proclamation that was received from Governor Steve Beshear for recognition in East Logan’s effort in conducting school programs during National Drinking Water Week. East Logan has been providing educational programs for our area youth for several years and feel that it makes the public more aware of water conservation and its importance. Senior scholarship recipients and some of the third grade students and parents that were winners in the water week contests also came to enjoy the day and meet the board members.

Providing great customer service is very important to East Logan’s board and management. “We are proud of our water district and its growth and look forward to future growth”, says C.K. Hanks, manager. “The newly completed waterline that goes up 68/80 to Shakertown is a major addition for East Logan and we are ready to supply water to many more customers when the need arises,” states Hanks.

East Logan appreciates all who were able to join Customer Appreciation Day and look forward to serving you the best possible. All customers are encouraged to see the newly launched website at http://www.eastloganwater.com/. As always “East Logan Water stands behind every drop”!
